Supercharge Your Spring Wellness Routine

Supercharge Your Spring Wellness Routine

Spring is exciting active season, with a soft brightness to the sunlight, the scent of spring flowers and the start of longer days. It’s an energetic time of year, and the perfect time to give your body some extra self-care and attention to prepare for the year ahead. Below are my favorite holistic health and beauty rituals to create a radiant spring wellness routine.

1. Supercharge Your Skincare

Spring skin care is primarily about flushing out winter’s excess and internally building up the skin’s protective barrier to prepare for summer and increased heat and sun exposure. Aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, take a high-quality algae omega supplement – I like this one, and drink filtered water throughout the day.

Increased circulation gets skin glowing, so take deep breaths throughout the day, practice self lymph drainage massage, and get in regular aerobic movement. Easy ways to boost your blood flow throughout the day are taking the stairs when possible, going for walks on your lunch break or after work, or dancing around the house.

Spring is the good time to slough off dry winter skin with a gentle enzyme-based exfoliant, and use gentle detoxing masks, like white or french rose clay. Add in some face massage to your spring skincare routine with a light face oil or moisturizer (pure aloe is great for this) to keep skin toned and improve elasticity. For a little inspiration, check out this facial massage tutorial from celebrity facialist, Nichola Joss.

2. Eat Vibrant Foods For Optimal Spring Wellness

Our bodies naturally crave lighter, more vibrant foods during the warmer months. Eating in season whole fruits and vegetables is one of the best ways to support your body and skin during the spring transition months. Fill your diet with spring lettuces, arugula, asparagus, broccoli, fresh herbs, radishes, spring onions, broccoli and spinach. Add in fermented foods, like sauerkraut and kimchee, and a probiotic to optimize gut health.

If you’re feeling lethargic or need an extra boost of minerals and phytonutrients, you can incorporate a whole food supplement like Vitamineral Green or Daily Green Boost.

3. Deep Clean Your House for Spring

Give your home and closets a deep clean this spring. Clearing out clutter is beneficial for both your physical and mental health, and one of the best ways make way for new energy. So open your windows, sweep out all the dust, and freshen up your space with some spring flowers.

I love to create a master list of all the tasks I want to accomplish, then spread the cleaning over a few weekends so I don’t get burnt out. Some helpful items to remember: vacuuming the couch, laundering pillows and duvets, washing winter coats for the season, and cleaning out your kitchen cabinets.

Spring is also perfect time to go through your toiletries, wash your makeup brushes, and dispose of any expired products.

4. Update Your Beauty Products for Spring

Warmer weather means more time outdoors, so it’s time to update your spring beauty routine with products that can multitask with you.

During the spring, switch to a light weight moisturizer and don’t forget the SPF! I like the DeVita Solar Protective Moisturizer, which has a light texture and gives skin a soft glow. Always wear sunscreen if you’ll be outside – even it it’s just for an hour or two! Check out my list of the best natural sunscreens for your face, neck and hands.

Another spring beauty essential is a SPF lip balm. I use the SPF rose tinted lip conditioner from Babo Botanicals. It has just a touch of pink that’s light and natural, and it’s full of moisturizing ingredients.

5. Get Your Spring Nails On Point

Polished spring ready nails are the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, so make time to give a little extra love to your hands and feet.

Give your feet a luxurious soak and exfoliate away calluses with a natural pumice stone. Follow with a nourishing moisturizer like shea butter or sweet almond oil and slip on a pair of cotton socks to seal in the moisture. Repeat this ritual a few times to get your feet soft and ready for sandal weather.

For hands, choose a sheer shade in a non-toxic polish for a clean and minimal look. Or, skip the polish entirely and buff nails to a soft transparent shine.
